Prepping Your SkinExfoliate before you go for a Spray Tan The spray tanning solution affects only the dead skin cells. Your skin has a buildup of dead skin cells on top of it. The thicker the layer, the sooner it will rub off. If you exfoliate, the layer will be very shallow, and it will take a while for it to “build up”. Your spray tan will last longer. It is important to use either exfoliating glove or products that don't contain any oils; otherwise the oily barrier can stop the spray tanning solution getting through. Don’t Wear Deodorant, Moisturizer or Makeup Before Spray Tanning Many deodorants will stop spray tanning solution going through. Some others will turn the armpits green (you can imagine my horror when a client came out of change room with green circles under her arms- I never forgot to make sure nobody else made that mistake). Few moisturizers and makeup products can act as a barrier, not letting the full amount of the solution to attach itself to the skin (that said I had very many wonderful tans with moisturizers and make up on- but you never know which ones will mess the tan up). As soon as you've had your spray tan you can apply deodorant and make up. Dry out in front of a fan. The tan needs to “set” and the process will take about an hour. It is best to bring clothes and shoes as loose as possible to wear after your spray tanning session, to make sure nothing rubs off. How many days will a Sunless Tan last? The longevity of a sunless tan depends on level of clear and bronze you choose, the skin's natural exfoliation process, and on the skincare regimen followed before and after application. On average, spray tanners last up to 7 days. A professionally application, I.e. a sunless tan received at a salon or spa, will last longer than an at-home application as there is usually a greater percentage of DHA used. How long should I wait after I spray before I shower? The Pura DHA solutions takes about 6-hours to fully develop. We recommend to wait a minimum of 6-hours after the application to shower. Soap destroys DHA. Delayed bathing allows the DHA bronzer sufficient time to complete its reaction with the amino acids (proteins) within the skin. The cosmetic bronzer is the color that is immediately visible during the session and it will wash off during the first shower, revealing the DHA bronze tan beneath.

(Sold in Salon) This product will help you … Erase self-tan build up in minutes Preps skin for your next self-tan pH Balancing 2 n 1 cleanser and primer This will help you to avoid dark spots that can occur from when you do not fully exfoliate off your previous spray tan. Often times you can "think" you got everything off, but there is still remaining leftover spray tan buildup that will become "dark spots" after your next spray tan.

We do strongly suggest if you're a first time spray tanner to come in atleast 1 hour before close as you will have paperwork, skin typing and a tour for your first visit. Also please keep in mind if we have others waiting and our wait time exceeds our closing time we do have the right to stop taking anymore spray tans for that day.
-
How do spray tanners work? The principle tanning agent used in all self-tanning formulas is dihydroxyacetone (DHA). This ingredient does not produce a "real tan" by increasing the skin's melanin levels, rather it creates a tanned appearance by developing a brown color on the surface of the skin. The action of DHA is limited to the upper layer of the skin and involves a reaction between DHA and skin proteins and oxygen that produces brown compounds. This process is similar to what occurs when you slice open an apple and the surface of the apple browns when it's exposed to the oxygen in the air. The development of color takes anywhere from 2 to 4 hours and the intensity of color is dependent upon the DHA concentration in the product as well as each tanner's individual skin characteristics. The color developed by the DHA usually lasts up to 7 days and begins to fade as the top layer of the skin naturally exfoliates.
-

-
How much color will I get?Everybody’s skin reacts differently to our tanning solutions. Some people turn very brown, while others get a more golden glow. Our tans can be applied to achieve light, medium, or dark color. People who spray tan regularly tend to get darker, as the skin naturally begins to react better to the product.
-
What should I wear in the Pura Sunless booth? Most people wear nothing. Since the room is completely private, going for an all-over tan is completely up to you. However, if you do wear a bathing suit or underwear, please note that it may be become stained. The bronzer we use in our Pura Sunless booth is water-soluble and should wash out, but the DHA may permanently stain what you wear during the tanning session.
-
What happens if the Pura Sunless myst gets in my eyes?Pura Sunless tanning myst has been thoroughly tested by a third-party lab and the results showed no eye or skin irritation.
-
Should I cover my hair in the Pura Sunless booth? Many customers wear a disposable shower cap, provided by the salon, to keep the Pura tanning myst from getting into their hair. Other customers tan without covering their hair. The Pura Sunless tanning myst does not penetrate the hair follicles.
-
Should I get a Mani/Pedi before or after my Pura Sunless Tan?We recommend to do your Pura Sunless tan AFTER your mani/pedi appointment to ensure that the exfoliators often used in the mani/pedi services don't scrub off or make your sunless tan uneven.
-
Can a spray tan protect me from getting burnt? No. Our solutions contain no sunscreen. You must still apply sunscreen with UV protection before prolonged exposure to sunlight.
-
Can I also suntan while I spray tan?Yes! You will still be able to achieve a “real” tan through your spray tan. Remember to wear sunscreen! If you choose to tan in a tanning bed on the same day that you spray tan, we recommend tanning in the tanning bed first.
-
Will spray tanning turn my nails brown or orange? It shouldn’t, but to be safe we recommend applying barrier cream to your finger nails and toe nails. Always wipe your nails clean with a towel at the end of your tanning session.
-
After receiving my spray tan, I smudged it when I got dressed. Is my tan ruined?"Not at all. This is just the cosmetic bronzer that is added to the tan for your instant color results. It stays sticky for a little while after the tan, and can be smudged when you put on fitted clothing. When you take your first shower, the bronzer (as well as the smudges) will all rinse away. We advise against putting on tight bra straps immediately after tanning, as this does tend to rub away at the tan.
-
Can I spray tan while pregnant? The spray tanning solution is FDA approved and safe to use during pregnancy, but we still strongly recommend consulting your physician first. We highly recommend using the provided breathing filters during your tanning session. They are provided at no charge just ask our staff!
-
I had a bad experience with spray tanning before. Do spray tans simply not work for me?That is not true! There are many factors that contribute to the outcome of your spray tan. The quality of the solution and equipment, your skin condition at the time, the skill of the technician, etc. The Pura Sunless is the newest and best technology available and is designed for all skin types. Exfoliate and shower before and moisturize afterwards and odds are your spray tan will look fabulous.
-
Does the solution smell bad?Pura Sunless solution has a very pleasant smell lightly scented with mango. There is hardly any smell at all. The smell is strongest just before you shower (as the DHA has fully developed). After you shower, you will not smell at all for the duration of your tan.
-
Will the spray from the spray tan application come off from my clothes? If you are using a spray solution with a cosmetic bronzer, some of the bronze color may rub off on clothing or bed sheets. This is most likely to happen when you get dressed immediately after tanning. To minimize the chance of the tint transferring to clothing, we recommend that you wear loose-fitting, darker clothes after your spray session. Try to refrain from physical exertion that could result in you sweating until you shower and wash off the cosmetic bronzer. The cosmetic tint is water-soluble. Therefore, in most cases, the color will come out of clothing in the wash.
-
What is a cosmetic bronzer? The component of a sunless product that gives a a tanner immediate color for that "just off the beach" look. Ingredients used in sunless cosmetic bronzers are similar to those used in cosmetic foundations or bronzing powders.
-
Will I turn orange? No. Pura has perfected the spray tanning method with the trinity mist system giving customers that "just off the beach" look and transition smoothly into their DHA color that will later develop. The "orange" color, as it is sometime called, is the result of high pH levels within the skin. Extremely light complected customers or those tanning for the first time should be sprayed with our #32 which includes a prep, level 1 clear, level 1 bronze, and moisturizer.
-
What is barrier cream and where should you use it?Barrier cream is used to protect the areas of skin that are more porous and dry such as the hands, feet, elbows, etc. We provide barrier cream to all customers for each spray tan session. Barrier cream should be used before every spray tan session. Hands should be washed immediately following the spray tan session.
-
Will I be sticky after being sprayed? It is normal for there to have a slight sticky feel immediately following the session. The comfort drying air is also placed and aimed to perfectly complement the entire process and avoid tan-ruining things like vortices and irregular air-flow patterns.
-
Can I spray multiple times to get even darker? We do not recommend this approach. In fact, spray tanning over an existing spray tan can make you look blotchy, especially when the tan starts to fade. We recommend at least seven days between sessions and we recommend exfoliating your old tan off before receiving a new tan.
-
Post Spray TanMake sure you are able to NOT shower for at least 6 hrs after your sunless session, get wet or sweat. If you are worried about getting sheets, car interior, furniture colored just put down an old towel or old sheet to protect these things! Lastly, Moisturize lots each day after the spray tan to help keep it - it will last 3 to 7 days (Add on the Post Moisturizer Spray!) Things to avoid: bar soaps, shaving, exfoliating, hot showers, chlorine & salt water to keep your sunless tan from fading fast.
-
How long should I wait after I spray before I shower? The Pura DHA solutions takes about 6-hours to fully develop. We recommend to wait a minimum of 6-hours after the application to shower. Soap destroys DHA. Delayed bathing allows the DHA bronzer sufficient time to complete its reaction with the amino acids (proteins) within the skin. The cosmetic bronzer is the color that is immediately visible during the session and it will wash off during the first shower, revealing the DHA bronze tan beneath.
-
How to remove a spray tan from unwanted areas?Every now and again you might get too much of a good thing, or not do too good a job with pre spray tan exfoliation and barrier cream and finish with dark patches on knees, elbows, or hands. Anybody that ever came down with a bad case of patchy spray tan will usually head straight to the computer and Google: “How to Remove Spray Tan”. We recommend each customer consult with their personal physician before trying any of the following tricks: PLEASE CONSULT YOUR DOCTOR BEFORE TRYING ANY OF THESE METHODS! These are only recommendations and results may vary. SUGAR & LEMON - Mix together one cup of raw sugar and ¾ cup of lemon juice. Using raw sugar is essential as the rough granules scrub away the tan. Rub the mixture over your skin and leave it to sit for a few minutes. After, rinse off with warm water.
-
How long should I wait to enjoy a pool/spa/ocean?We recommend avoiding these situations for the first 48 hours following your spray tan. Chlorinated pools & spas can increase the rate in which the skin exfoliates causing the tan to wear and fade.
-
Prolong your Spray Tan by following these easy steps:For the next 4-8 hours:* Stay away from all forms of moisture (water, rain, swimming, perspiration, etc.) for 6 hours* Do not get a manicure, pedicure or waxing (it is best to do this before your spray tan)For the next 7 days:* Quick, cool showering is optimal.* Use mild soap and stay away from using loofahs or exfoliants. Patting your skin instead of rubbing is best.* Keep your skin moisturized. This will enhance the life of your spray tan.* If you shave, use a sharp razor with moisturizer. Shave cream and oils are usually not the best options to use.* If any body part appears too dark (usually due to dry skin), apply baking soda or a toothpaste with peroxide to even out the color

Adult Tanning Consent RequirementsNOTE: Any individual 18+ must present in the presence of a tanning facility operator a valid Driver’s License or a State I.D. with a valid expiration date and it will be recorded on your adult consent form per the State of Ohio Cosmetology Board. You will be required to sign an Adult Tanning Consent Form. As well as a skin typing is a required assessment that is used to determine the appropriate tanning exposure schedule for an individual. The types of questions presented on the assessment are about sun sensitivity, natural coloring, recent tanning history, medications, and medical history. Each response is given a numerical value, after the certified operator reviews the questions with the client. The answers are tallied, and an individual’s sun sensitivity is determined by a score of 1-6. This level of sun sensitivity can then be used when utilizing the manufacturer’s printed label for suggested tanning time.
